You're Not Listening is a very warm and insightful exploration of what it means to be a good listener and what the increasingly detrimental effects of fewer and fewer people striving to be good listeners are. The book references numerous experts, researchers, and everyday people who listen for a living to explain how people can become good listeners, what they gain by doing so, and what they risk by not doing so.

This was my first real foray into non-fiction and I loved it. The references to psychological experiments piqued my interest greatly. I plan to use this book as a guide to become a better listener and definitely plan on reading it multiple times to absorb the huge amount of information it contains. While the book explains some really complex processes and anatomical structures, I think it did so in a way that was very accessible and easy to understand. I didn't feel like I was being scolded or talked down to when I was reading, but rather that I was taken on a journey and I didn't stop questioning how I can be better at every step along the way. I would really recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn something about themselves and how to improve relations with the people they interact with everyday.
