In a world of social media and internet connections, a lot of people have forgotten the true art of actually listening. Not just nodding along and giving advice of what you would do, but actually looking at the person, processing what they are saying, and responding back with an response that will show the other person that you care. A lot of people now a days would rather have their noses in the phones or put more effort into online communication because it is more "controlled" environment. However, most people that do this will admit that they are probably one of the most loneliest people out there. As humans we are born with the natural instinct to connect with the people around us, but over time it fades. However, it is not too late to correct certain behaviors in yourself as well as in your significant other or children. Kate Murphy has made her career as a NY Times journalist by simply listening, truly listening, to the person she is interviewing. Now she wants to share the knowledge with all of us.
