This was a timely read and Kate Murphy doesn’t over complicate her argument on behalf of practicing listening skills. She draws examples from both professional and personal scenarios affirming both the difficulty of the task and the necessity. Particularly in our tech savvy times, when self-promotion and strongly worded opinions dominate the landscape, this book is a reminder that listening well and the relationships that listening fosters are worth the effort.

Murphy’s writing style is smooth, that of a tenured journalist who has clearly practiced intentional listening herself. These are not pages to rush through and I’m already looking forward to re-visiting them. A book that matters and one I’ll highly recommend to friends.
