Kate Murphy cuts straight to the point of a major problem in society today. We're so wrapped up in what we want to hear, how we want to hear it, and just as problematically, making sure everybody is hearing what we say that we don't take any time to listen when people have something to say. Listening, while gaining knowledge, understanding and fulfillment, is still in so many ways an inherently unselfish gesture. Murphy points out obvious "tells" to when people aren't listening and starts slowly working her way through how those are only a sign of the problem and not the means for people to fix it. I think this could be a great read for just about anyone wanting to improve their relationships with other people by undertaking both a simple and incredibly challenging endeavor.
