I don't know who Sean Dietrich is. If you do, you'll probably enjoy this book with the background knowledge you likely already have. You Are My Sunshine is supposed to be a heartwarming, inspiring, and funny story about a journey he took with his wife. I'm not saying that it isn't those things, but it is very human as well. The flow of the story will be going well, and then is interjected with a line I just know the author thought would be so funny/self-aware. So, it's not the best writing I've ever experienced. I also would get thrown off by ways he would talk to, or about, his wife, or about the long bike ride that she so desperately wanted. There were times it felt rude. (And why was she so commonly referred to as "the math teacher"? She's more than her profession.) The point is, he didn't make himself out to be a hero. He portrayed his human-ness. And despite some of my annoyances with this book, it was indeed inspiring with a side of chuckles and moments that made me smile. Kinda makes me want to strike out on a several hundred mile hike full of my own ups and downs.
