I knew nothing about Sean before reading the First Look but his writing instantly drew me in. The first line was like a punch in the stomach. It doesn't matter whether you've experienced it, know someone who has, or have only just heard about it, the fear that comes with "cancer" is shared. The way Sean details this fear is so palpable that I immediately felt for him and his wife. What do you even say to a young couple who has just found out that one of them has lumps in their breast? That they may or may not be okay? I can't even begin to imagine what they went through. However, although I've only gotten a brief glimpse into the book, it's obvious, even without having read the synopsis, that this book is not meant to be sad. It's hopeful. It's about love and keeping a promise to the one you love. It's about taking a leap, overcoming fear, and life. Living. And this is felt in every line, right from the beginning. I may not have known much about Sean when I first read this, but I feel like I know him and his wife a lot more now. And can we talk about that title? I'm in shambles.

I've never been a huge fan of yellow covers but I think it's fitting for the story that Sean is trying to tell. It's bright and, call me dramatic, but also sort of loving? It's an adventurous cover as well. Being a non-outdoorsy person myself, a 100+ mile trail doesn't sound ideal, but the cover does make me want to go on a hike again haha.
