The first look of You Are my Sunshine just didn't reel me in. I was struggling to suspend my disbelief and really get into the story. The writing felt too colloquial for me, and it also felt like some of the Southern expressions being dropped were kind of forced. I also really didn't like the descriptions of Jamie's personality. It came off a little crude and sexist.
I think the cover is really pretty and does represent what the book appears to be about. I think the book could appeal to a wider audience with some stronger writing, and a less conversational tone of narrative voice.
