The juxtaposition of the opening chapters really sets the tone for the book - harrowing fear of cancer, mixed with a "let's go for it" spirit of adventure. It is reminiscent of Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods, and I'm eager to read the highs and lows of another (possibly underprepared) duo heading off on a looooong trail.
