Interesting premise, wish it had had an explicit plot line

I thought the premise of this book was a really interesting cross between Frankenstein and Inglourious Basterds. The characterization of Vera was very unique, and I liked reading about how she navigated the world as an outsider. However, I feel like there wasn't a very strong plot. It seemed like there never really was an end goal that they were working towards or a specified plot point that I should be looking out for. I also felt like some of the characters weren't developed super in-depth, which contributed to the disconnect I felt from the plot itself-- rushing through scenarios and people is definitely realistic for that time, but I felt like there wasn't really anything to grab onto. The world-building was great, though! I felt like you could really feel like you were walking through the woods with her and seeing the atrocities she had to experience. I wish there had been something more explicit in the plot department, but besides that, I thought it was an interesting and unique read!
