Historical fiction with some fantasy and gore
This book is a great read. You are introduced to a new culture and new words. It can be challenging at times to read because of the different words and language/culture that is represented, but there is a handy glossary at the back of the book to help with some of the words.
I love that we are seeing some history, specifically Nazis and their treatment of the Jewish population, and then the wrath that comes from someone directly affected by their actions. I really feel like we can all relate to Vera in some ways. Maybe we aren't directly affected by the past, but we all have something we are willing to fight for, and that's what Vera is for, to fight for what's right.
In learning about other cultures, I am curious if Kishuf and Golems are really a part of the culture and, if they really are fables passed down in the Jewish community.
I will say that there are some triggers that you should be aware of including gore, war, death, and post-mortem removal of body parts.
