The story is about a girl named Vera who is a golem. She was shaped using clay, and the body parts of a resistance fighter, Chaya, who passed away fighting the Nazi's. Chaya's father, Ezra, builds her as a weapon to destroy the nazis. Ezra disappears and she runs into Chaya's ex-boyfriend, Akiva. Through her journey to find Ezra and destroy the Nazi's Vera tries to figure out who and what exactly she is.

I liked this book. It was well paced, the writing was descriptive and interesting. The only thing I really felt it lacked was more plot. This book deals more with emotional side of who Vera is. She's trying to understand what it means to be human and where she fits into that. I feel her emotional journey fell a little flat because she was constantly having epiphanies. They didn't feel earned and sometimes were so far from what was actually happening.

I did enjoy the relationship between Akiva and her. I could really feel her affection for him and I think he might have been a better written character than her.

I think this book disappointed me in that I expected more. But as a blind reader it might be an okay read.
