A Good Read

I thought overall this was a good read.

Right off the bat, the concept caught my attention: a golem created for the sole purpose of getting revenge against Nazis. I typically don't gravitate towards stories with Nazis in them, even the ones that get revenge against them, but this was was just too intriguing to overlook. And I'm glad I gave it a chance.

One thing I really liked about this book is that it was a war-adjacent story--meaning it focused more on the civilians than on the war itself. (That's a just a personal preference; I'm not a big fan of reading about war.)

While I thought the secondary characters were well-done for the most part, I wanted more from our main character Vera. She didn't really have any emotions or a personality, even through she was created to have emotions (at least, that's what we were told several times). So I would've liked if she had emotion, and we got to see the full force of her wrath; or, she wasn't meant to have emotions, and thus she was lacking emotion as expected. The mismatch just left me wanting more.

Overall, I still think the premise of this book was strong and the author did a pretty good job of executing it.
