What a great opening! The author definitely knows how to pull the reader in. I enjoy reading WWII era novels, and this could go along well with those, particularly to complement the nonfiction ones. In books I tend to read, there's a lot of facts woven in, so it'd be interesting to see if that's the case here, as well.
