I really enjoyed how the author overlayed fantastical elements with historical fiction. This opening stands out amongst other World War II stories, with a heroine driven to the fight not because of her own convictions, but because she was created to do so. Her creator's sacrifice of his own faith values in the quest for vengeance adds a layer of tension that I'm interested to see explored.
