Ximena is a decoy. She takes place of the real Condesa (princess, essentially) and gives speeches and appears in public when the princess should. However, when a rival kingdom threatens the Illustrians (the kingdom that Ximena pretends to rule over), Ximena is forced to travel and accept a marriage proposal. But to win the war, Ximena wants to find an ancient artifact and she believes it is located in the rival kingdom.

Although this might sound a little bit like a typical YA fantasy, this book was so good. The author's descriptions were magical; especially the way she described all of the yummy foods that were cooked.

This book is a standalone, so if that is appealing there's that. But there's definitely room for a sequel to be written (and I believe there is one planned).
