I had high expectations for this book when I first heard of it. I absolutely adored Descendant of the Crane by Joan He. The rich and descriptive world-building and was the best part of Descendant of the Crane. With this book, I was expecting to get those same rich qualities from this book, and personally, it felt lacking and just fell short in general.

This book just felt like a disappointment from the book I was promised. The plot seemed to lack from what was promised from the synopsis, the characters were alright and in total the world-building was the exact opposite from the beautifully described world in Descendant of the Crane.

Overall, this book left me extremely letdown and it did not interest me to continue to read the rest of the series. I truly am getting tired of all these YA books having to be series instead of a stand-alone book.
