Being that this was a debut author, my expectations we’re not that high. I am a voracious reader of all genres so I’ve learned to be somewhat sheptical reading a first novel!
That said, this one definitely deserves the praise it’s received. It immediately draws the reader in. I wanted to learn more about the main character as well as her environment. I was interested to explore the relationship between her and the princess. I enjoyed the touch of what I perceived to be Latin American influence as part of the storyline. The magical element in this case enhances the story as opposed to detracting from it.
All said, I would love to read the rest of the novel and I’m interested to learn what the outcome is.
