This review is based solely on reading the sample of the book. However, this book seems to be right up my alley. It has political intrigue, a hated conqueror, magic, and fierce friendship.

The condesa (queen) is not who she seems to be, instead she is being impersonated by another in order to protect the true queen. Currently, the two are living in a small area of the kingdom where they retreated during an invasion many years ago. They are kept safe, along with a few citizens and guards, by the spell work performed by the captain of the queens guard, Ana. However, the situation is quickly becoming dire as they are running out of food rations and Ana has not returned from a scouting trip that she should have been back from days ago. And now, there are Llacsan messengers asking to approach with a message for the queen. (Insert dramatic sounds here.)

I am very interested in discovering what happens next in this book and seeing how it all plays out. And the magic system is so unique! A king that can control ghosts! A girl who can weave tapestries with moonlight! Another who can read the stars! I am all in for this book.
