I really loved this book. It had rich characters and such a lush setting. The story was suspenseful and exciting, and yet taught me so much about the Bolivian culture. The way the author wrote about food made my mouth water. I loved the magical setting and learning about the political landscape in this world. Ximena showed excellent growth as a character and I loved the way this novel ended for her. Her magical powers were interesting and so fun. There were some super fast-paced action sequences that were fun and exciting to read. AND THAT COVER -- does anything get better than that?! I'm not normally a fantasy reader, but I found the magic in this system easy to understand and access. This was such an enjoyable read and I am truly looking forward to hearing Catalina's story in the follow up novel, Written In Starlight. This author is definitely one to watch!
