Not for me

Honestly, I went into reading this story with very low expectations that I think tainted my experience with it. The story was beautiful and tragic, but a good balance. That being said, the plot throughout was very very predictable, yet not at the same time. There was one point where there was a huge plot twist, and while it was most definitely a shock that I hadn’t seen coming, it felt exorbitant and unnecessary. Furthermore, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the author’s tone. The parts narrated by Lori, the mother, were different than those narrated by Avery, her daughter, but I found Avery’s voice to be unrealistic and cringy. As someone with a lot of experience with teens, it just didn’t feel authentic. I don’t want to lament on the things that I didn’t love, but I’ll leave it at the fact that this book just wasn’t for me. It was a great read that had me hooked from the beginning, but it’s not something I would have ever chosen for myself, nor would I know who to suggest it to.
