Captured my attention from the first sentence!

The layout is attention grabbing from paragraph one. Allowing the reader snippets of what has happened, where the main character is and what might have brought her to this point. Tangling the truths between uncertainty allowing for the reader to have unending questions. Giving away bits of an unraveling tale; the characters introduced in a timely manner already offer intrigue and further peak the interest of the reader. Laying out history that's no longer the way things are guide the reader to wonder about the transition before the tragedy that has occurred. Not allowing the reader to know what exactly this tragedy is but that there is great loss that came from it engage struggle, sadness, and unending possibility of how the author will share how it has all come to fruition. Interesting characters introduced with multiple conflict possibility also lead to more intrigue!!!
