Wilder Girls (releases tomorrow!) is young adult, girl power INSANITY. Author Rory Power takes any preconceived ideas of femininity, chucks all of that out the window, and leaves her readers with violence, horror, and kickass girls in the throes of the Tox — a deadly plague that turns its victims into deformed, monster-like creatures; plants, animals, and humans alike.
**Brief intermission for those of you who see the crepe and want to know WHAT THAT BEAUTIFUL DELICIOUSNESS IS! It’s the Crêpe Normande — scallops and shrimp in some delightful white sauce and Swiss cheese inside, then topped with lemon and almond slices on the outside. It’s fancy and wonderful and ILOVEITSOMUCH. And a specialty iced tea with mint. Okay, back to your seats. Intermission over.**
Raxter was once a middle school through high school girls boarding school on an island off the coast of Maine. But the Tox hits the island and the girls who don’t immediately die from it do all that it takes to survive. It is a wild, gruesome ride, but I’m already strapped in, ready to go, and waiting to devour the next book in this series.
Needless to say, if you have any sensitivity to violence and bloody gore, skip this one.
Wilder Girls reminded me of The Maze Runner and Divergent in a way. I loved it, feel a little nauseated, but that love is still clinging to me. “I love you, baby, but you also make me want to throw up a little bit.” would be my love note to this book.
I’m giving this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars because the story is genius and there were just minor parts I didn’t like.
