To me, this book kind of seemed like a mash up of Gone and The Girl in Red. If I had realized how sci-fi like this was going to get, I probably wouldn't have picked it up. Sci-fi as a genre really doesn't work for me, so as soon as that element got introduced, I lost a bit of interest.
My rating is pretty much just because I don't feel anything for the book. Sure, I was interested, but not overly excited to finish it. I think my main problem was the characters, I just didn't connect with them. I never understood the romance between Reese and Hetty, it came on way too fast, and I think their flirting methods need work. (view spoiler) I also didn't like or understand Byatt, which ruined the latter half of the book for me.
While I can definitely see why some people love and rave about this, it just wasn't my type of book. That being said, I was really drawn into the first half of this, so the series has potential!
