Set in a dystopian time, a plague known as the Tox has spread throughout the east coast. Hetty is a young girl who has contracted this plague and goes to a school where other girls have the same illness. As the group of teenage girls deal with this, they begin to experience anything normal of being an adolescent. Building friendships, falling in love, and experimentation are some of the elements that Hetty and her friends deal with. It is not until one day when Hetty's friend, Byatt, goes missing everything begins to change. Filled with deception and mystery, Wilder Girls will leave readers wondering how they can survive such a dangerous environment.

The writing of this book can get quite graphic, but Power tells a story of what every girl experiences in their lives. I did enjoy the undertone of the story in that these female characters are learning to grow up while battling a deadly plague. The only draw back that I did not enjoy is the graphic details of each of the symptoms the girls go through. I would recommend this book for those that enjoy thrillers and survival of the fittest stories.
