This sapphic YA female reimagining of Lord of the Flies was intense.
“It’s like that, with all of us here. Sick, strange, and we don’t know why. Things bursting out of us, bits missing and pieces sloughing off, and then we harden and smooth over.”
I vaguely remember Lord of the Flies from middle school but what I do remember is crazy and this certainly meets the same level of crazy.
Rory Piwer did a great job at setting a really creepy, gory tone throughout the novel, sending chills down my spine with every page turn.
I’ve heard her second book, “Burn Their Bodies Down” does this just as well which really excites me.
The horror genre is one I tend to lean away from but Power did a really good job with it!
The characters were really interesting to read about, the island was so cool and the premise of a quarantine really hits home given our current situation. Overall a really great read!
