Okay, so the cover and the premise drew me in, but ultimately it fell a little short of my super-high expectations. What I liked: The creepy, well done island setting. This was super unique. The Tox, it's such a fascinating and eerie villain. The characters were well drawn and lifelike. I loved the lesbian romance, yay for diverse characters in science fiction. What I didn't like as much: I felt like there wasn't enough closure at the end. I'm ok with an open ended book but this one just felt anticlimactic. Hopefully there will be a sequel because I feel like it needs one. There were some really big feels in here and I applaud the author for making me tear up. It was so creepy, too! In the end this is one I wouldn't necessarily reread but I sure did enjoy reading it and it's popular for a reason.
