What first struck me in this, my most highly-anticipated novel of 2019, was the narrative style. I was immediately consumed by the story, haunted by the character's voice, and drawn in to the story, the created world that lies before me and designed without pretentiousness or grandiosity. As a teacher, this book will appear to readers of all ages who seek a haunting, dizzying tale of survival, friendship, power, and freedom. I am so excited to read the full, finished copy of this novel, and further invest myself in these stunningly captivating characters. I like that this seems the perfect blend of The Haunting of Hill House, Extraordinary Means, Never Let Me Go, and, of course, Lord of the Flies.
