The book has captured my attention and I want to read more. Usually, I don't go for books like this; not my cup of tea. The Wilder Girls is about a school for girls who suffers with a plaque of some sort, called the tox, and is now under quarantine. The tox has left some of them dead, brought a few to the brink of death, and others have developed abnormalities. The Narrator is Hetty, a teen girl who became blind in her right eye because of the tox. She speaks with an understanding a teen girl should not have for the circumstances she is in. The tox leaves Hetty and her two best friends, Reese and Byatt with marks. Hetty's right eye is blind and fused shut, Reese has scales and Byatt has a bone coming out of her spine. These girls have found the strength needed to stay alive and pray that the Navy is working on and will bring them a cure. Flare-ups come and go, some worser than the last, and some end in death; that has become the new normal. They have to fight for food and clothes that come from the delivery and they have gun training to protect each other from whatever may come their way. In all the craziness they still try to smile and they continue to have hope, and maybe someday; a cure.
