The novel is very well written and feels very authentic in its depiction of the time period and people. It has duel timelines from the present (2015) and the past (1920s) set in a Black jazz nightclub in Chicago. Sawyer’s story in the present was a bit harder for me to get into. As a character he wasn’t extremely interesting to me and it made his perspective less enjoyable to read. Honoree’s story from the 1920’s flowed beautifully and is so vividly described that I felt like I was sitting in the jazz club watching the events unfold. The ending unfortunately felt a bit rushed to me and it was somewhat confusing to understand from the way it is presented. There were some great secrets revealed throughout the novel, most of which I wasn’t expecting. Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for fans of the genre! 4/5⭐️
