Sawyer is a struggling media student who believes he has found a missing movie of Oscar Micheaux, a famous black filmmaker which leads him to interviewing Honoree Dalcour. Honoree is a 110 year old woman who danced in jazz clubs in Chicago in the 1920's during the jazz age.

I really enjoyed the story of Wild Women and the Blues. This debut novel was well written and I enjoyed the multiple POV's between Honoree and Sawyer and the dual timelines between the 1920's and present day.

The story had themes of race, relationships and secrets. The setting of the jazz-age in Chicago was unique to the typical World War II settings in historical fiction novels. Wild Women and the Blues reminded me a lot of City of Girls with the artistic/performance vibes and also The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with a younger character interviewing an older person who is also reflecting on their life.

I'll be honest, that I did get a bit lost in the background story of the betting papers, illegal gambling, and mobsters but still thoroughly enjoyed this story.
