Travel back in time to 1925, Chicago, as you read about Honoree Dalcour's exciting and at times terrifying lifestyle. Author Denny S. Bryce has definitely done her research as she takes you back to the Chicago's Black History Belt (comparable to New York's Harlem Renaissance). Bryce's writing makes you feel apart of the glitz and the glamour of the black-and-tans and the jazz scene as she often speaks in 20's slang. Bryce does a thorough job of developing Honoree's character and you get to learn not only of her past life and some of the dark secrets that include some of the darker parts of the 1920's, gambling, gangsters and illegal alcohol, but then she brings you back to present day in 2015 as a film student is hoping to get the full story of Honoree's secretive past before she passes away. This is a great read not only for the rich history but also there are a lot of twists and turns you won't see coming. I can't wait for Bryce's next book, Blackbirds.
