Not being a big fan of historical fiction, I was surprised to enjoy the first few pages of this book, so naturally, I claimed it. This was an enjoyable book. It takes place between two timelines. One is Honoree's time period, which takes place in the roaring twenties, as she struggles to make a career as a dancer. And Sawyer, a graduate student who is basing his thesis on filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, and figuring out how Honoree fits in the story and fills in the missing pieces. It has a mystery, as you try to figure out how these two time periods fit together and also has a bit of romance. This was a pretty quick read for me, and I liked both the author's note included with the ARC, as well a the epilogue and the preview to the author's next book. Thank you to BookishFirst and Kensington Books for providing me with an ARC. I look forward to reading more from this author.
