I loved reading about the Prohibition era, with the speakeasies, the jazz music and the corruption binging with the law. I also truly enjoyed the back and forth between the past and the present. The rivalry and back-and-forth between the different clubs was interesting too. Of course, the racial split played an important part in this story which was no surprise. I think it shows how far this country has come. Most important, of course, is the love story between two old neighbors. I definitely was intrigued as the mystery of the identity of the crochety lady in the nursing facility. I quite simply could not put this book down. The story started with me long after I finished it. I cannot wait to discover what the best book written by this author. If you are looking for something that keeps you guessing until the final pages, I highly recommend this story.
