Honoree Dalcour lived quite the life. The roaring ‘20s in Chicago is the setting for this intriguing story. Times were so different then, even more so for those of color. The author did a great job researching and bringing this era to life. Honoree was such a fun character to love. Her life took twists and turns all the way until her death at over 100 years old. When Sawyer goes to interview Honoree you can feel the emotion and story coming together. While the twists were constant, I was able to deduce how Sawyers family knew Miss Honoree.

I can’t imagine life in the 1920. Women trying to find a way to make it on their own and men thinking they are able to thrash through life without worry. Ezekiel and Honoree made for a fun couple to cheer for. I also loved the relationship that grew between Bessie and Honoree. Then in present day, we were giving the budding love between Sawyer and Lula.

This was a quick read. Kept me engaged throughout. Not 100% a fan of the ending. Left too many questions unanswered. Thanks for the ARC. 4 out of 5 stars for me.
