I was excited to read this book from the moment I read the description. I felt like it would be very similar to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk. I was not disappointed! I believe the author had both of these books in mind as she wrote it.

The book follows dual timelines, flashbacks to 1920 detailing the life of a showgirl in the Chicago Jazz scene, and current times with the story of a struggling film student who is interviewing the showgirl in her rest home.

The story went deep into the struggles that both characters face in their time period. I really enjoyed Honoree's story with details of the 1920s, such as murder and mobs. The author did a wonderful job or weaving the two timelines together and making you care for both characters and what they are going through. I loved how the two stories are ultimately linked in the end.
