This book was so cool - historical fiction and mystery combined into one. I loved the 1920s black life views, it's a perspective we rarely get when we talk about the golden age of the 20s. The love story aspect of this book was also really well done, as was the story of the generations of folks who made up both families. My one qualm about this book was that some of the writing felt choppy, and at times that pulled me out of the story. I did like the back and forth perspectives of the two main characters, and how they interacted with each other over time. The book didn't try to sugarcoat the difficulties of a life lived as Honoree's had been - and also all of the various factors that changed Sawyer and Honoree's decisions as the story went on. Overall, a really good read - I would recommend it to fans of historical fiction and also multigenerational dramas!
