I really liked this book! I loved reading about Honoree and Bessie in 1925. It was a time of jazz, bootleg alcohol, & gambling. It was so interesting how Honoree worked so hard and all she went through to make it after her mother left. I liked reading about some of the celebrities of the time too and how Honoree kept striving to be her best. I wanted to keep reading about her and how she grew up with Ezekiel and how their paths crossed over the years. He at times seemed like a shady character but also seemed like such a nice guy.
It was interesting to follow Bessie and how important she was in the book.
It was also fun to read and follow Sawyer and his interaction with 110 year old Honoree at the Bronzeville Senior Living facility and the unexpected things he found out. He met Lula while visiting Honoree and he also found out that his Dad had visited Honoree in the past but had not mentioned it to him.
