This wonderful debut by Denny Bryce is told in dual timelines (1925 and 2015). Sawyer Hayes visits Honoree Dalcour to help him with his research about Oscar Micheaux. But, what Sawyer discovers is so much more than he anticipated! The author transports us to Chicago during a time when the city was ruled by gangsters and jazz ruled the entertainment industry. Honoree, a dancer, shares her story as she becomes entangled with a circle of shady characters making her fearful for her life. On of them is Ezekiel; the love of her life. The story comes full circle as Sawyer puts together the pieces of the past and the present. Is Honoree really who he thought she was and if not; just who is she?

Wild Women and the Blues is a great historical fiction novel and a refreshing one at that! Did I mention it's a debut (I am mentioning it again) because I can't wait to read more from this author!
