The first chapter of the book sets a modern day story, where the protagonist is introduced at 100+ years old. I didn't have a strong feeling about that storyline, as it's a little vague. The second chapter of the book takes the reader back to 1925 and it's like the author had a book of slang from the time period and wanted to make sure they used every word and metaphor available in this chapter.
