Love the strong independent woman attitude

Something significant must have happened to shape Honoree's personality and attitude in life. She is blunt, sassy, wise, and maybe a little mischevious because she isn't willing to tell Sawyer her story until he told his. And the story also alludes that something significant happened in Sawyer's life, so I'm wondering if the separate events are going to be similar or have an effect on each other?
Regardless of whether the story is from Sawyer's perspective or a flashback to Honoree's perspective, I could tell she is a strong independent woman and I love that attitude.
