Wild Women and the Blues gives insight into Chicago during the Roaring 20s, as viewed through the eyes of an ambitious young Black woman dancing at a jazz club, trying to improve her lot in life. Her past is juxtaposed against her present, as she is visited by a young film student trying to complete his thesis. Sawyer is trying to unearth information about her past while trying to keep his own secrets buried.

I'm intrigued by the story, and the glimpse into an era that has always fascinated me. Especially since this is an extremely vibrant aspect of that time that isn't always as well-represented in literature. I like Honoree's character, but I didn't find myself as connected to Sawyer. I think there's potential to warm to him if he opens up a little more, but I guess I'll have to read further into the book to know for sure!
