I liked the way the book jumped you into both stories, the modern on and the one of the Twenties, and gave you enough background to link them together. The modern story only laid a bit of groundwork, but the Twenties story--of burlesque, booze, and an unexpected appearance at the end of the passage all have you ready to continue reading.
