This book begins with beautiful detail about the charmed life of an early teenage who lives on Cape Cod. I really appreciate how the writing begins in such an innocent manner that reflects this mindset, and then shifts--as if being woken up from a dream--to reflect a new, forever changed sense of self and others when the main character is asked to keep a secret for her mother. I cannot imagine being asked by a parent to help deceive a step-parent in such a huge way as a child--this must have been so confusing for the author. I am really curious to see how this plays out.
