Literally I only checked this one out because the cast for the movie adaptation is legit watchable: Michelle Rodriguez, Viola Davis, Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, DANIEL KALUUYA. Like, most likely a hot mess, but a watchable mess.

This excerpt... welp. So so eighties. I could smell the cheap cigars and taste the slippery nipples (the drink y'all) and feel the shoulder pads resting ever so delicately and strong on my feminine (snort) shoulders. Everyone is so grabby and disdainful and screechy - the cops showing widows their burnt up hubbies, the detectives that can't stand each other, Dolly (our main widow) and her mother-in-law, who's a parody of herself, honestly. Everyone's yelling!~!~! Every conversation was the same, information was repeated far too much for such a short excerpt, and these lines:

"When Shirley had tried to jump into the grave on top of the coffin, he’d been so embarrassed he’d walked off and attached himself to a completely different and far more dignified funeral party."

"Holding Linda tight as she sobbed, Gino whispered soft comfort in her ear, and casually placed his drunken hand on her right tit."

GOOD GRIEF. I think this would make for fun dramatic reading with friends, but just reading it in me own noggin, it's a slog.
