Originally written in the 1980s, the book that launched the career of Lynda La Plante is being released once again in an Americanized, expanded version before its upcoming feature film adaptation. I'm not sure which one or more of these things is responsible for the choppy, overly theatrical writing we see from the usually stellar La Plante on display here but Widows certainly isn't up to her usual standard... by a long shot.
