In this opening excerpt, there is too much of a character dump, with short scenes alternating POVs. We meet all three women, plus cops and other characters I can only assume will be minor players. In one scene, the cops are not just rude, but cruel to one of the recent widows. No explanation for that was given, as we just jump straight into the next scene. The result was too choppy for me to feel any of the emotion or connect to the characters.
While I didn't love this First Impression, I do think the story has potential and might evolve into something more compelling as it goes along, providing you can stick with it long enough.
