I'll start off by disclaiming that I've not read the book this is a sequel to, Widows, and while there was a short recap of the events, I'm afraid this excerpt failed to hold my interest at all. The characters are silly and indistinguishable from each other, and I was very much annoyed when sound was described as coming from a transistor. The accents written in are also inconsistent and I couldn't suspend my disbelief in the characters or events throughout. Lastly, what time period is this set in?
