i read this book for a readathon, which is probably the only reason i finished it. by the time i realized it was not going to get better, i'd already invested too much time to find a new book, so i pushed through. this isn't the worst thing i ever read, by a long shot, but i really didn't enjoy it. the characters fell really flat, and their relationship was very underdeveloped. the magic system was incredibly confusing, and the plot was all over the place. nothing felt as though it followed from the last thing, and there wasn't even a satisfying reveal or climax that pulled things together. the only part of the book that was well done, in my opinion, was the korean representation. while i cannot speak on it personally, it is own voices, and i've heard good things from others who do share these identities. overall, would not recommend. i think there's better books with good representation out there.
