I may or may not have stayed up way past my bedtime last night to finish this amazing 400+ page book, even though I was only on page 19 when the day started! It is amazing, and everyone should read it!

Basically the story is about a gumiho (9-tailed fox girl) who ends up befriending and falling in love with a mere mortal boy. But she accidentally loses her fox bead (life source) in a fight where she saves The Boy, and then the book is about her struggle to reclaim her bead, her learning to trust a human, and also her relationship with her mom. There are actually a lot of relationship dynamics in this book (absent parents, alternative caregivers aka grandparents, hurtful parents, friendship, love...) and the way they are explored is beautiful and heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. This book was darker than I expected, and I enjoyed every second of it!

Also, I got a glimpse into Korean culture and mythology that I wasn’t familiar with before and I absolutely loved it! More books like this please!
