This story takes place about 100 years ago, which is initially what drew me to the book. I love to read about this period and was intrigued by Two Feathers, a tough and independent Cherokee woman. I anticipated enjoying this book but it was a complete miss for me.

The slow pace was too much when mixed with a plot that had no real direction. The characters were interesting, but they lacked substance enough for me to really care much about them. The dialogue often took me out of the story, and a combination of all of these things prevented me from really diving into the story and enjoying it.

Some readers will enjoy this book regardless of the slow, meandering story. The Wild West show setting brings along a hodgepodge of characters. There are also several animals that are prominent parts of the story.

There are some mystical elements to the book as well. An apparition appears frequently, and sometimes abruptly, in the book. Supernatural elements can occasionally turn me off of a book, it fit really well into this story.
